Two-Day National Conference on Pāli: A Dialect of People (पालि: जन-जन की बोली)
Chh. Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), a city rich with Buddhist
heritage, is set to host the Two-Day National Conference on Pāli: A Dialect
of People (पालि: जन-जन की बोली) on October 14th and 15th, 2025.
Hosted by MGM University's Institute of Indian and Foreign Languages and the
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Centre for Buddhist Studies-FIDS, this conference aims
to re-introduce the profound wisdom of the ancient Pāli language to the
modern public. As the language chosen by the Buddha for his teachings, Pāli
served as the accessible "common man's" tongue over 2500 years
ago, playing an instrumental role in preserving the earliest Buddhist
scriptures in the Tipitaka. The event's core message emphasizes the timeless
relevance of Buddha's philosophy, focusing on the need for wisdom over war
and promoting social harmony and the purification of the mind.

The conference will feature a remarkable roster of eminent
scholars and experts from across India. Distinguished speakers like Dr.
Prafull Gadpal, Dr. Dhammadeep Wankhede, and Dr. Yojana Bhagat
will deliver lectures on topics ranging from Pāli's relevance in the modern
world to its echoes in Buddhist art and culture. The program is designed to be
highly interdisciplinary, promoting the study of Pāli literature as essential
for the younger generation in understanding various fields, including
Philosophy, History, Linguistics, and even modern Sciences. A unique highlight
will be 'Melodies of the Middle Path,' a live musical presentation of
the Dhammapada, showcasing the artistic depth of this classical language.

A significant aspect of the conference is its call for
academic papers, inviting research on a broad spectrum of themes under the
umbrella of Pāli and Buddhist studies. Scholars are encouraged to submit work
on topics such as the Origin and Development of Pāli, Pāli
Inscriptions, Vipassana Meditation, and the contributions of modern
figures like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Acharya Satyanarayan Goenka
to the revival of Pāli studies. The goal is not only to foster academic
research but also to raise social awareness and advocate for increased human
equality globally, with selected papers to be considered for publication in
reputed peer-reviewed journals.
Interested participants, including faculty, professionals,
research scholars, and students, should note the critical deadlines, with the abstract
submission due on October 10th, 2025, and the final paper submission on
October 12th, 2025. The registration fee is structured to ensure broad
accessibility. This conference offers a timely and necessary platform to delve
into the ancient language that is key to understanding India’s rich spiritual
and intellectual heritage, particularly in a region that has flourished with
Buddhism since the time of the Satavahanas and is home to the world-renowned
Ajanta and Ellora Caves. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with the wisdom
of the past for a more mindful future.
